Final preparations before Iron Girl Triathlon

Final preparations before Iron Girl Triathlon

1,300 women will be taking over Brewerton this weekend for the annual Iron Girl Triathlon. We've been following some of those athletes throughout the season as they train with the Fleet Feet Triathlon training program. Our Katie Gibas is one of those athletes. She checked in with some of the women at the last CNY Tri Club's weekly practice series to see how they're preparing with just a few hours until the race. Updated 08/03/2012 08:43 AM

I am sure everyone is watching the Olympics now, even the non sports fans find themselves glued to the TV cheering for USA!! Not only do we watch we also dream. Come on admit it you dream about what it would be like to win a gold medal or any medal ... what would it feel like to stand on that podium after years of training and sacrificing? 07/31/2012 03:31 PM

This past Sunday, I competed in my first sprint Triathlon (Gillie Girl) and as Kermit the Frog would say, “it’s not that easy being green”. Being new to things can be overwhelming... 07/31/2012 03:25 PM

Up really early to head to Lake Placid from the campsite. We are doing one lap of the Ironman course. We start out from the Horse Barn on the out skirts of town…we have already seen so many cyclists out and on the course…the excitement is huge! 07/31/2012 03:20 PM

We are almost to the goal! It is exciting knowing that I have worked so hard to get to this point. I have learned so much this training season and have made so many new friends who share the same interest as me. Had my first race of the season this past Sunday and it was an amazing race. 07/31/2012 03:14 PM

In between all the training I was also dealing with a nagging problem in my right foot. After two trips to the podiatrist, three cortisone shots and a set of x-rays we can’t figure out what is wrong. 07/31/2012 03:10 PM

Despite being sidelined (somewhat) by my eyes still being very uncomfortable and light-sensitive, I have gotten in two workouts on my bike trainer, two workouts in the pool using an aqua jogger, and two runs (in the shade!!). 07/31/2012 02:34 PM

Preparations are already underway for IronMan LP next weekend…it is so exciting and inspiring! I get up after a night of dancing at my sister’s wedding and ran the loop around Mirror lake…it is truly magical! 07/31/2012 03:05 PM

This week was filled with vacation. Sometimes during training you have to face this event. So I don’t have a lot to share this week. 07/31/2012 02:56 PM

I have been getting in a lot of walking, some running and a fair amount of pool swims. The continuous turning is a pain, but my comfort level in the water has improved dramatically! 07/31/2012 02:30 PM

One week to Iron Girl

One week to Iron Girl

It's been a rough few weeks since the Tri in the Buff Triathlon. I've been busy with moving and re-injuring my neck. There have been far too few workouts. 07/30/2012 10:55 PM

Female triathlons on the rise

Hundreds of women are preparing for the Gillie Girl Triathlon this week and more than a thousand will compete in the Iron Girl Triathlon in August. Both events are sold out. The nearly 1,400 Iron Girl slots sold out in 24 hours. In this week's segment of Give it a Tri, our Katie Gibas caught up with some triathletes at the CNY Tri Club's weekly practice series and tells us what's drawing so many women to the sport of triathlon. I can't believe I did it. It was more challenging than I thought at times, but I finished. 07/13/2012 04:53 PM

Week nine: The war on water. This was my week to get acquainted with open water while battling dehydration, over-hydration, and maintaining hydration. The battle is not over. In fact, it has just begun…and I am currently losing. 07/16/2012 11:00 PM

Victory dance!!! Iron Girl is less than a month away and we’re still kicking (and sometimes screaming…). In final preparation for the big event, I had a detailed schedule of how the last 4 weeks were going to go, with regards to my workouts. 07/16/2012 10:50 PM

Oh I have to get back into the grove of training. I am taking a few too many rest days. Looking back on this week I only trained for three days and on the other days I hit the snooze button a few too many times. 07/16/2012 10:39 PM

I am at my " Montana training camp" (tee hee) I had a nice run with my new watch, my son and grandson at 6100 feet. T'was great! Love the heart monitor... this is at 6100 ft in the Rockies. 07/16/2012 10:31 PM

I go for a bike ride with my friend/co-worker/fellow tri-buddy Maura around Buffalo…we had to go slow and had a hard time finding a place to really get a big workout in but managed to get roughly 12 miles in and then biked to a shore side seafood restaurant…pretty amazing night! 07/16/2012 03:10 PM

Week eight marked a week I have been waiting for all session: the first week of my summer vacation. Training guilt had become overwhelming as my once set training schedule became demolished by the final-weeks-chaos that every teacher knows and “loves”. I was ready to finally get in some quality hours guilt-free. 07/16/2012 03:14 PM
