A high school senior from Pittsfield died Monday after the car she was driving struck a tree.

Police said Emily Breault, 17, was driving on Benedict Road just after 4 p.m. when her car veered off the road and crashed into a tree on the right side of the road.

She was taken to Berkshire Medical Center where she died. She
was alone in the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation.

Breault was on the high honor roll last year and was a member of
the Taconic High School volleyball team.

Taconic Principal Douglas McNally says Breault was a "beloved"
student and a vibrant and active member of the school community.
