Syracuse versus Georgetown: it's one of college basketball's biggest rivalries. That rivalry will soon lose its luster once SU moves from the Big East to the Atlantic Coast Conference next season. But as the Orange gear up to play the Hoyas in the Dome next Saturday, Brad Vivacqua tells us how some local shirt makers are making the rivalry memorable for fans.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- John Groat has been a Syracuse basketball his entire life. That's why he knows how big the Syracuse-Georgetown rivalry is when it comes to basketball.

"Anytime we can see the Hoyas lose at the hands of a Boeheim team, it's a great day in Syracuse," said Groat.

In anticipation of the February 23rd contest, Groat's shirt company, Holy Shirt, is pumping out and distributing thousands of "Beat Georgetown" t-shirts.

So far, these cotton keepsakes with the words "For Old Time’s Sake" on the back have been a hot sell.

"I think for a lot of Syracuse fans, wearing a shirt is a symbolic display of your pride, and affinity for SU and for Syracuse and Central New York," said Groat.

Tickets for next weekend's game have been selling fast at the Carrier Dome Box Office. In fact, the game could be an attendance record breaker for a basketball game in the Dome. That's why it's hopeful these t-shirts will help fans keep the memory alive forever.

Across town, Papa's Sports on the Syracuse north side has also been busy making shirts of their own. The popular "Final Showdown in the Loudhouse" shirt is also available in several local stores.

"I think it's been popular because of the rivalry between Syracuse and Georgetown for all these years, it's kind of coming to an end as far as a Big East rival is concerned. And, so people are really interested in it," said Mike Toomey, Papa’s Sports owner.

"We've been blessed over the years to have Syracuse fans over the years really embrace our shirts. Whether it was Marathon Men, or Beat Nova or We Are SU, and we're hoping this is another one that really strikes a chord with fans and is something they can really enjoy and show their pride," said Groat.

And regardless of whether you can score a ticket to next weekend's game, a shirt may help instill the memory of this Big East showdown forever.

Tickets for the February 23rd SU-Georgetown game are limited but still available at the Carrier Dome Box Office.
