Bills fans are reacting to the news of Doug Marrone's reported hire. YNN's Kevin Jolly talked with some local Bills fans about whether they think this move could make the team a Super Bowl contender.
AMHERST, N.Y. -- At Buffalo Wild Wings, football fans may have gathered to watch their other favorite teams in the playoffs, but the hot topic on everyone's plate is the Bills’ new coach.
"My immediate reaction was I liked it, but I think quarterback's gonna be the biggest issue. So as long as he gets a quarterback in there that he can win with and a defensive coordinator to call the defense, I'm okay with it right now, so," said Eric Reznicek.
"It's not bad. We'll give it a shot. A lot of people seem a little upset about it, but I'm waiting to see what he can do. Just get the ball to SJ13 and CJ and we'll be fine," said Ryan Sheehan.
Gary and Joyce Duck are Bills season ticket holders originally from Syracuse. They say Marrone's done great things for Syracuse, leading a once losing team to two consecutive bowl championships. Now they're hoping he can do the same for Buffalo.
“We need a new coach. We've needed a coach for a long time and I think this guy’s gonna be able to turn our team around. And hopefully he will," said Gary Duck.
But not everyone is sold on Marrone.
"I think that's a mistake. I think they should go with Lovie Smith,” June Beard said.
“Why is that?” our reporter asked.
“Well he's more experienced in the pros. That's the way I look at it, you know," said June Beard.
“I think the Bills dropped the ball on this one. I think Russ Brandon had sold it off that they were gonna spend, money was no object, they were gonna go out and get the best coach possible and there're so many better candidates out there and to take something out of our back yard that's not a proven talent...yet," said Don Gill.
"He's closer, he's cheaper. Sometimes cheaper ain't better. Sometimes you just can't do that," said Lamar Williams.
So far, the team has not confirmed or released details of any deal with Marrone. But if he becomes the Bills’ next head coach as is expected, one thing's certain: He has his work cut out for him with the team and the fans.
