CORNING, N.Y. -- New York's Highest Court is hearing arguments Tuesday on whether or not a patient can sue a Steuben County Clinic for a violation of his privacy rights.
John Doe claims a former nurse at Guthrie Clinic Steuben in Corning revealed that he was being treated for a sexually transmitted disease.
The nurse knew Doe's real name because his girlfriend was the nurse's sister in law.
The clinic fired both its president and the nurse within days.
A Federal Judge dismissed the lawsuit, deciding the clinic was not liable for the nurse's actions outside of her duties.
Now, the New York State Court of Appeals is hearing the case.
