SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- Monday marks the final day of the New York State Fair. Admission is just one dollar, and fairgoers can take advantage of the midway rides for a dollar a ride. Many vendors will offer food and drink specials for only a dollar.
Members of the Syracuse firefighters Local 280 are also collecting donations Monday. The firefighters will be there from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. near Chevy Court as part of the "Fill the Boot" campaign to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The funds will be used to provide services and equipment for those with neuromuscular diseases in Central New York.
"The fair always is a huge event for the MDA and firefighters out there. They usually raise around $6,000 there. So the fact that people go out and visit the fair, and enjoy that part of it and also take the time to drop the dollar in the boot, it's a big deal for us," said executive director Kate Houck.
The Local 280 has a goal of raising $20,000 for the year.
Entertainment on Monday is the Doobie Brothers in Chevy Court at 6 p.m., followed by some fireworks to close out the fair.
