SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Day two of the Great New York State Fair is Law Enforcement Day.
A large part of the day is honoring those who have died in the line of duty. There have been 67 law enforcement deaths nationwide just this year.
Fairgoers and officials from across the state gathered for a ceremony Friday morning that paid tribute to four State Troopers and two police officers who died this year.
That included Trooper Christopher Skinner and Patrolman David Smith, both from the Southern Tier.
Their names were among those added to the brick memorial.
"It's emotional to be here today, it's only been a few months since David was killed, he was a friend, a companion to all of us. So it is kinda tough but it makes us feel good that they are honoring him like this as well," said Johnson City Police Officer Jody Kennedy.
