LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Hundreds of cancer survivors and their families donned some very special hats Sunday.
The safari themed party was held at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool in celebration of National Cancer Survivor's Day.
Organizers say it gives people the opportunity to socialize with others who know what they've gone through.
"I think cancer is becoming an epidemic in our society, it's become one of the largest diseases out there. And I think that when you have that no matter what kind of cancer you have you're all family, you've all been through similar situations," said Matthew Capogreco, a cancer survivor.
"I just wanted to talk to people about overall how I got through it, how they can get through it, and just how it feels," said Zach Ellingson, a cancer survivor.
The group also celebrated the upcoming opening of the Upstate Cancer Center. It's expected to open next month.
