SU's Hopkins not leaving for Oregon State job

  • Text size: + -

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It looks as though Syracuse University men's basketball assistant coach Mike Hopkins is staying put -- at least for now.

Hopkins had been reported to be one of two finalists for a head coaching job at Oregon State, but reports out today from the Oregonian and CBS Sports indicate that he did not get the job. The university is expected to announce Monday that it has hired Montana head coach Wayne Tinkle, who has connections to the OSU staff.

Hopkins has spent the better part of two decades as part of Jim Boeheim's coaching staff. At one point he was named SU's head coach-in-waiting, but there's no indication that the 69-year-old Boeheim is anywhere near ready to call it quits. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
