ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- As the murder trial of Clayton Whittemore begins, the death of 19-year-old Alexandra Kogut is at the forefront of many people's minds this week.
In her memory and to honor her life, Kogut's parents have decided to give to the community.
The Koguts are taking the money given to them since her death and donating it to three causes that embody the person their daughter was.
Their first grants will go to:
The Town of Inlet to purchase a double-seated lifeguard chair for the lake where Kogut was a lifeguard.
Utica Dollars for Scholars for a scholarship to a graduating senior from Oneida or Herkimer counties.
To the literacy coalition of Herkimer and Oneida counties in honor of her love for reading.
Kogut's mother, Becky, said the chosen organizations would have touched her daughter's heart.
