DEXTER, N.Y. -- Modified and varsity sports in the General Brown School District could be cut if homeowners don't approve a seven percent property tax hike.

The district's budget hearing was held Monday night. School leaders said the state's Gap Elimination Adjustment has hit the district hard in recent years.

The district was forced to make similar cuts in recent years after voters failed to approve the budget. In an effort to keep the sports programs, the district's booster club turned to the community for support.

"That's a lot of pressure on our community, because that's a lot of money. But, certainly our hope is that we'll have the support for our budget and we won't have to make those difficult cuts," said Cammy Morrison, the superintendent for the General Brown School District.

If the budget fails, kindergarten would also be reduced to half-day, and include several job cuts. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
