SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Herman Boone, the real life coach from the movie "Remember the Titans," was in Syracuse on Wednesday to speak to local Boy Scouts members.

Boone coached high school football in Virginia at the time segregation ended in the state. His team went undefeated and ultimately won the state championship.

During his speech at the annual Boy Power dinner, he pushed the message of working together as a team, despite any differences you may have.

"The whole budget for the movie "Remember The Titans" was $16 million. But, when Denzel read the script by accident having lunch with Jerry Bruckheimer, he said, 'I want this role. No it doesn't pay me anything, I don't want any money. If you make anything at the end of the movie throw me a few crumbs,'" said Boone.

More than 1,100 people attended Wednesday's dinner to hear Boone speak. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
