EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- People in Central New York gathered to support a man who has spent years volunteering for the community.

Sunday's benefit raised money for Eric Fritz. He's a retired volunteer firefighter, EMT, and nurse, and is currently battling liver cancer.

"We decided that it was time to give back to him. He's got three kids, 12, 10, and 7. And we just felt as a community it was our turn to repay the favor and help out with medical bills, and any other expenses that he had," said David Gonzalez, one of the event organizers.

"I just think that it is an excellant event and you know I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support," said Fritz.
