ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A retired National Guard Commander from Manlius has died in a glider accident while in Arizona.

Military officials said retired Major General Robert Knauff died Saturday.

Knauff commanded thousands of men and women in the National Guard and Air National Guard over the course of his career. He also commanded the 174th Fighter Wing at Hancock field from 1996 to 2003. He retired from military service in February 2009.
