SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Le Moyne College Chamber Orchestra put on a show to raise money for an after school music program.
The Cathedral at Pompei Symphonic Music Program teaches dance, music, and poetry. Le Moyne helps fund the program through various grants to make it free for students in grades two through six.
Eighty percent of the children who attend the program are refugees.
"They speak many, many languages, but the language of music certainly comes through loud and clear with them and they are loving it, they choose the instrument they like and then they get lessons from professional musicians for two hours for two days a week after school," said Patricia Schmidt, a professor at Le Moyne College.
The Cathedral at Pompei Symphonic Music Program was first created in 2012.
