CAMILLUS, N.Y. -- It's National Drug Take Back Day. It's the perfect opportunity to get rid of old prescription medications. The event is aimed at preventing pill abuse and preventing theft of prescription drugs by getting them out of your cabinets.
Officials said instead of throwing away your unused medication or flushing them down toilets, you can turn them in to make sure that they’ll be disposed of in an environmentally safe way.
Saturday isn't the only day to get rid of your unwanted prescriptions.
"We also have a dedicated drug bin at the Camillus Muncipal Building. Right across the street from the police department, where you can take your unwanted or unused prescription bottles or pills right to our police department to dispose of them anytime," said Camillus Police Dept. Detective Sean Edwards.
Several locations throughout the state are taking part in the drug take back program, for more information click this link.
