WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Jefferson County recognized local young people for their help in in the community.
They were honored with a luncheon at the Watertown Elk's Club on Wednesday. Awards were given for volunteering with local organizations, helping local sports programs and excellence in the classroom.
Community leaders said it's great to have these kinds of young people in area, and it's important to let them know how much their efforts are appreciated.
"We have such an active youth board, our schools, our councilors. Anybody involved with our youth are on top of it. They're not only trying to get these kids recognized, but also helping them through some very difficult times," said James Schell, Jefferson County DSS Deputy Commissioner.
There were also a few adults who were recognized for their efforts. The awards were sponsored by the county's department of social services and the local Cornell Cooperative Extension
