UTICA, N.Y. -- The Sitrin Celebrity Classic in the Mohawk Valley is a basketball game that many people look forward to each year.
The fundraiser will be held Thursday night at Utica College. The event helps the Sitrin Stars, a team of handicapped athletes, with programming and travel costs throughout the year.
A celebrity team, including Olympian Erin Hamlin, SU basketball star CJ Fair, Senator Joe Griffo will all suit up. The Sitrin Stars feature a roster of paralympic athletes, and the wheelchair game is always a crowd pleaser.
Officials hope to raise more than $11,000.
"Those dollars will be used specifically to purchase specialized wheelchairs, pay for training for our athletes to compete both locally and a far as well as international competitions, and camps that many of our athletes like to participate in to improve their overall performance," said Marc DePerno, the program director for Sitrin Stars.
DePerno says the game is usually a sell out. If you're hoping to snag some tickets, you're encouraged to arrive early.
The game is set for 6:30 p.m., and doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for kids.
