WHITESBORO, N.Y. -- Eight women were recognized on Thursday for their contributions to the community.
The YWCA's Salute to Outstanding Woman Luncheon was held in Whitesboro, and is the organization's biggest fundraiser of the year.
Each woman was nominated by other people in the community for their service, and in recognition of the obstacles they've overcome. They were all given the chance to share their stories during the event.
"It's a really great opportunity for us to show young people and everyone how supportive this community is because when these women talk, they don't talk about what they did, they talk about who has helped them be successful, what's been important in their lives," said Natalie Brown, executive director of the YWCA
Throughout the event's 26 year history, 217 outstanding women have been recognized.
