FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- North Country State Senator Patty Ritchie is rallying politicians across the state hoping to back Fort Drum as defense budget cuts loom.
Ritchie and fellow State Assemblymen Ken Blankenbush drafted a letter signed by a bipartisan group of more than eighty senior New York Politicians, pledging their support to the post.
This came on behalf of Fort Drum's commander, Brigadier General Michael Ritchie.
Ritchie says the Pentagon would weigh the level of support from state leaders in choosing where to make deep defense cuts.
Fort Drum's Tenth Mountain Division is one of the most deployed military units, contributes more than $2 billion to New York's economy and is the state's biggest Army instillation.
The letter was sent to Governor Cuomo for him to rally leaders in New York State and Washington, D.C.
