UTICA, N.Y. -- Demonstrators are demanding a more moral budget, that's fair for all New Yorkers.
A vigil was held outside the New York State Office Building in Utica Monday. People from several organizations came together for the call to action.
Clergy members, community groups and labor organizations called for an end to tax breaks for the wealthy.
Organizers said often times budget crunches get passed onto people who are already struggling.
“I think we have to somehow change that equation. Sometimes people who talk about caring but then when it comes to actually forming budgets, they seem to from budgets that do more harm than good," said Reverend Rovert Umidi, Presbyterian Clergy.
Several members will be participating in what's being called a "fast for justice."
Participants will not eat for 40 hours starting Tuesday night.
