SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A record crowd at last month's auto preview show meant a big pay day for local charities.
The Syracuse Auto Dealers Association handed out $241,000 worth of checks Thursday to area charities all of it from ticket sales.
The only stipulation, the money has to be used locally.
The Central New York Make-A-Wish foundation has received nearly $250,000 from the auto dealers over the years.
And while the money is great, it's only part of what makes Thursday's event special.
"As much as the money is important, the opportunity to be showcased with other local charities and create awareness about our organization to help make wishes come true for kids with life threatening medical conditions, it's really extraordinary and it's a ton of fun," said Diane Kupperman, Central NY Make-A-Wish President.
More than $2 million has been donated to charity in the 16 year history of the event.
