CICERO, N.Y. -- A community gathered for a benefit event in Cicero to show support for a local family suffering a loss after a tragic car crash.
In November, the Patterson family was driving on Route 57 in Liverpool when their car was hit head on by Muhammad Baqir. Meagen Patterson, 34, was killed in the crash.
Meagen's husband, and their three children survived. However, they are still recovering from serious injuries that require extensive long-term rehabilitation.
To help cover those costs, a benefit was held for the family at the American Legion in Cicero.
Lance says he truly appreciates the support.
"I just feel so grateful that there's so many people, even people that I don't even know that showed up here, and it's just how many people that can rally together to help a family in need is just great and I am blessed to have everyone here," said Lance Patterson.
"It's really a good feeling to know that people from the area and outside the area, people that don't even know the family are willing to come in and contribute and be a part of such a wonderful fundraiser for a well deserving family that's going to have need for a long time," added Bonnie Cefalo, a Minoa resident.
Baqir faces several charges including second degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while under the influence of drugs.
