The North Area Meals on Wheels program helps feed the hungry on every day of the year. As Brad Vivacqua reports, the organization is participating in a national campaign to help grow public support.
NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- March for Meals is a national campaign, and is a great way to help ensure all seniors in northern Onondaga County are receiving a good meal.
During the month of March, people are encouraged to collect donations to benefit meals for homebound seniors. The campaign is meant to raise awareness about senior hunger, and encourage local communities to join the effort.
In Syracuse, Meals on Wheels is participating with a pasta dinner fundraising, and other special volunteer opportunities. According to officials, the need remains high for volunteers to help prepare and deliver meals.
"You get a lot of satisfaction out of it. There's a good camaraderie here with the volunteers. And, it's a nice social event for people looking for something to do," said Richard Natoli, the president of North Area Meals on Wheels.
The North Area Meals on Wheels covers northern Onondaga County, but anyone is encouraged to help the Meals on Wheels program in your area.
