LANSING, N.Y. -- The Department of Transportation held an open house Wednesday night to let people in the Ithaca area know how a bridge deck replacement project could affect their drive.
Officials say the Cayuga Heights Road bridge that runs over Route 13 between Lansing and Cayuga Heights is safe, but aging.
An estimated $2 million renovation is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2015.
The concrete bridge deck will be replaced, some minor structural work will be done, and the shoulders will be widened to make crossing easier for bicyclists and pedestrians.
DOT officials say they held the open house to get input from neighbors.
"We're based in Syracuse, 45 miles away. We like to get out and hear from the public some of the specific concerns of the folks who live in the area. Just to kind of get an idea, because we're kind of far away from them," said Gene Cilento, NYS Department of Transportation.
The bridge will be down to one lane, but traffic over the bridge isn't too heavy.
The project should be done by the fall.
