An annual campaign is reminding uninsured woman about free breast cancer screenings. As Brad Vivacqua tells us, the Love Yourself campaign encourages woman to take advantage of the free mammograms.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- In Onondaga County, the month of February serves as a reminder for all women to love themselves, and put their health first.

The Love Yourself campaign encourages uninsured woman between the ages of 40 and 64 to make an appointment for an annual breast cancer screening. Even if you live outside the county, you can call for a referral to a local provider in your area.

According to health officials, women will often pass on this beneficial opportunity.

"A lot of women will think, well, I'm uninsured now, but I'm going to get insurance in a few months. I plan on getting insurance in a few months, so I'm going to wait. Well, that's really not the message we would like them to hear. We want them to hear that we're available for them now," explained Jenny Dickinson, a coordinator for Onondaga County Health Services.

Officials say every county in New York State has a Cancer Services Program. Any woman with no health insurance between the ages of 40 and 64 can call (315)435-3653 to register for the free screening.

Statistics from the American Cancer Society show one out of eight women will be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
