MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- One local animal shelter says it needs to move, to continue serving the Madison County community.

Wanderers Rest in Canastota was in court with the Village Zoning Board Friday.

The shelter says it needs a zoning change to be able to use a location it was offered at the Canastota Business Park.

Owners say their current building is more than 30 years old and in need of repair.

Zoning board officials argue that the organization does not meet the necessary standards of the location.

"We work with schools, we work with colleges, we have a huge volunteer base, we're out in the community every weekend. We're looking to build a community dog park in Canastota," said Dee Schaefer, Wanderers Rest Humane Association.

Wanderers Rest runs on donations.
