ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two local police agencies are teaming up in an effort to save money.

The DeWitt and Manlius Police Departments are forming a combined Accident Investigation Team.

The two groups will share equipment and personnel when they investigate serious accidents.

Officials say because of the advanced training required by those investigations, the move will result in significant savings.

Officers will be called on a mutual aid basis as needed by either department.

"It's a savings of costs, certainly, but again the expertise that these police officers will bring to the investigation will benefit the overall investigation, as well," said Eugene Conway, DeWitt Police Chief.

Officials say this was possible because both departments are similar in size and location, and they use the same equipment.
