The proceeds from an upcoming cardboard sledding derby will benefit local AIDS prevention. Our Brad Vivacqua explains the Sled for Red fundraiser event.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Sled for Red fundraisers will benefit AIDS Community Resources, and its youth service programs.
The unique fundraiser is held every year at the Four Seasons Golf and Ski Center. Teams are required to raise $250, and build their own cardboard sleds.
On February 8, those teams will compete in the derby.
This year, a team of students from the Syracuse Institute of Technology is participating. They received materials from Cutting Edge Marketing, and recently started working on their sled.
The students said they are excited about the competition, but are even more pleased to help spread awareness about AIDS prevention.
"They feel like they can actually do something about a disease and a disease that affects all of our lives one way or another," said Cindy Squillece, Syracuse ITC Advisor.
Silence Goodman, a junior at Syracuse ITC, added, "Spread awareness for AIDS and HIV and just have fun out there."
ACR provides services to students at ITC throughout the year.
