CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- Three people have been arrested after a large explosion that rocked parts of Chemung County.

Deputies said they got many phone calls from the southwestern part of the county after an explosion early Sunday afternoon.

According to investigators, the suspects mixed ten to twelve pounds of Tannerite in a five gallon bucket.

Tannerite is an explosive substance often used in small amounts by target shooters and sportsman's clubs.

The suspects shot the five gallon bucket with a high velocity rifle, causing the explosion.

Deputies said homes shook, and pictures fell from walls in neighboring homes.

Three people were charged with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

39-year-old Paul Christiansen from Wellsburg, 22-year-old Chrystal Kinner from Wellsburg and 39-year-old Christopher Mickinkle from Elmira were arrested.

They are scheduled to appear in Big Flats Town Court at a later date. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
