SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- SU's new chancellor briefly addressed the possibility of a new stadium in downtown Syracuse.

Though city officials haven't confirmed anything yet there are reports that a new multi-use sports arena is being considered for the city.

It would potentially be located at the site of the former Kennedy Square housing complex along East Fayette and East Water Streets.

When asked about the idea, SU Chancellor Kent Syverud told us he's looking at multiple options as the Carrier Dome's roof nears the end of its useable life.

"One of which is spending what it takes to make the Carrier Dome sustainable well into the end of this century, which will be expensive but could be done, and one of which is to explore that compared to a new stadium that someone else would build and operate, and which we would be a tenant on," Syverud said.

Syverud said he is having staff draw up proposals for both ideas as they look into what's in the best interest of the University. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
