SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- They may not have fingers, but the lions at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo have no problem opening up a present.

The Syracuse Zoo hosted its Holidays with the Animals event Sunday, passing out wrapped gifts to many of their furry residents.

It is part of the Enrichment Program that encourages the animals to display natural behaviors found in the wild.

"The enrichment that we usually give are pretty standard things, like branches and bugs and trees and different kinds of things like that. But this time of year we certainly like to embrace the holiday season and certainly the people like to watch," said Ted Fox, Rosamond Gifford Zoo Director.

If you're wondering what's inside those boxes, depending on the animal it could be anything from food to new toys for them to play with.
