UTICA, N.Y. -- One person was injured after a building caught on fire early Saturday morning.

Utica Fire Department responded to the call on Warren Street around 6 am. When they got there, they found a homeless person laying on the ground across the street from the burning building. Fire officials say the individual had tried to escape the fire by jumping from the second story floor.

"We believe it was completely abandoned and this person was taking up domicile here to stay warm by using a fire inside the structure," said Utica Fire Department Chief Mark Ambrose.

The person did sustain injuries... and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
