SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Two people were injured following a fire at the Syracuse police repair garage on Erie Boulevard East.
It was called in shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Officials said two mechanics were working on police cars when the fire started.
At this point, it appears to be accidental, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
One of the workers was transported to a local hospital with minor burns, another was treated for minor smoke inhalation.
Fire crews were able to put it out before it could reach other parts of the building.
"Our police officers are actually deployed from this location, so they attend roll call, there is a roll call room here, and their lockers are located on the second floor of the building and fortunately the fire didn't make its way up to the second floor of the building," said Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler.
Police said the office section of the building only saw smoke damage as well.
