TRENTON, N.Y. -- A Remsen woman was killed in a crash in the Town of Trenton. It happened around 10 a.m. Monday on Route 365.

According to investigators, Nancy Herrick, 78, lost control of her car and hit an oncoming vehicle head on. Her passenger, Joan Hamlin, 75, died at the scene. Hamlin is the grandmother of Olympic luger, and Remsen native, Erin Hamlin.

Herrick was taken to a Utica hospital and then transferred to Syracuse with multiple injuries. The other driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Investigators say icy and slushy roads contributed to the crash, but the cause remains under investigation. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
