SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- People gathered to honor retiring SUNY ESF President Neil Murphy at an event Thursday. Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy was one of many dignitaries.
Murphy played a large role in the community and the development of ESF during his 13 year term.
The night brought back a lot of memories for everyone who attended. Murphy reflected on the one thing that mattered most to him during his tenure.
"I live for the students every day,” Murphy said. “I do a lot of administrative things, a lot of pushing of paper. But whenever I had enough of that, I walk outside, I walk down through the campus and have an interaction with students and they lift me up. They're extraordinary young people.”
The new president, Dr. Quentin Wheeler, will take over the position in January.
