OSWEGO, N.Y. -- An Oswego man has been sentenced for embezzling more than $33,000 from the post office.
Authorities say John Gibson III, 38, purchased 91 postal money orders with checks from closed checking accounts.
Gibson pleaded guilty to theft of government money back in June. He has now been sentenced to three years' probation and was ordered to pay the more than $33,000 back in restitution. He will also serve six months of home detention and two months of weekend incarceration. Gibson will also have to perform 100 hours of community service and pay a special assessment of $100.
