FULTON, N.Y. -- Thousands of onions went up in flames in Oswego County. Crews were called to Sorbello and Sons Farms on County Route 8 in Fulton Tuesday.
Crews arrived to find a fully involved fire in the main barn, which was a processing and storage facility. There was about 5,000 crates of onions inside, which officials say posed some challenges.
"The onions were all in crates, which are all wooden crates, stacked from floor to ceiling in the entire building. So just a lot of fire load and nothing to stop it," said Oswego County Fire Coordinator Don Forbes.
No one was hurt in the fire. Investigators are now looking into the cause.
