LOWVILLE, N.Y. -- Many of those same concerns over the Common Core standards are on the minds of North Country residents. And with no Common Core forums scheduled in the area, Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush organized his own forum in Lowville.
Two members of the Assembly's education committee were also on hand.
Blankenbush says he's not opposed to the idea of the Common Core, but he's not happy with how quickly it was implemented. He believes there should be some changes, but not without local input.
"Our local teachers, they're the professionals. They're in the classroom. I think it's those people who should be sitting down and talking about how we go forward and how we make it better," said Blankenbush.
Blankenbush says a bill will be put forward in the next session that would eliminate the current Common Core standards and rework them.
