POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Clarkson University students are working to inspire their peers to increase their recycling efforts.

The group of students spent their Wednesday picking through garbage from the student center to see what items could have been recycled instead of thrown away. The students who participated said they were appalled by what was thrown out as garbage.

Although organizers said they have not seen much of a difference since they started the event, they are not going to stop trying.

"People are aware. There are posters everywhere, but it just does not seem to make a difference. When you ask people about it they either don't care or don't have time," said Connor Ramond, Institute for a Sustainable Environment Intern.

Some of the items that were thrown out that could have been recycled include to-go boxes and paper coffee cups. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
