FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Fort Drum is preparing for a possible government shutdown. It could mean more civilian furloughs.
Deputy Garrison Commander Michael McKinnon says there will be two classifications of employees: Exempt and non-exempt. Those exempt, such as active duty soldiers, emergency responders and those civilians who are critical to the mission will not see any changes. But some employees who don't fall into those categories are in the process of being told if and when they could be furloughed again.
Many civilians were furloughed earlier this year due to budget cuts. McKinnon says these furloughs will be a bit different and each employee should speak to their supervisors to find out how.
