It's known as the busiest weekend of the year for the City of Utica and a big weekend for many runners across the region. Boilermaker weekend begins today with a Health and Fitness Expo at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica. YNN's Brad Vivacqua joins us from the newsroom with more on the big weekend ahead.
UTICA, N.Y. -- It is certainly going to be a big weekend for runners of all ages this weekend with multiple events going on as part of the Boilermaker.
This Sunday is the 15k road race, but you've also got the Kids Run and the three-mile walk Saturday, and then the 5k also on Sunday.
There's no doubt that Mohawk Valley Community College will be busy a place this weekend. Runners in the 5k and 15k races can pick up their race bibs and packets and get some cool health tips and merchandise.
There's also numerous events on going at the college including seminars, giveaways and the Kids Run on Saturday.
Race organizers say it's always great to hear from runners at the expo every year.
Boilermaker Race Director Jim Stasaitis said, "Getting a chance to talk to them. I've seen the same ones year after year and they come up and thank us for putting on a good race and just being able to hear the accolades from the runners about how good the Boilermaker is, how good our volunteers are, and how they love this race and they do it every year. That's the most exciting part for me."
The Health Expo takes place in the Jorgensen Event Center at MVCC today from noon to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
