SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y. -- A man is rescued after falling over the edge of a cliff in Sackets Harbor. Officials said Lane Reeder, 24 of Fort Drum, was walking along the edge of a cliff early Saturday morning when he fell over.
Emergency crews said he was drinking with friends and was on his way home when he fell into the water. They said he luckily didn't hit any rocks in the water. He was able to huddle on the rocks nearby until being rescued by boat just before 4 a.m. Saturday morning.
Officials said the water temperature was only between 40 and 50 degrees, so he was lucky someone found him as quick as they did.
"Alcohol obviously seemed to be a factor. Actually, it lowers the body temperature faster. So, it makes the situation worse in reality,” said Mark Knowles, Jefferson County STAR Team.
Reeder was taken to Samaritan Medical Center for mild hypothermia.
