FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Fort Drum is trying to cut back civilian work hours and one of the first services to lose some time is Child and Youth programs.
Employees of those child and youth services were told Saturday that starting in late April, all programs will be closed on Fridays. It's all part of the Army's plan to reduce civilian employee work hours by 20 percent due to sequestration.
Fort Drum started telling families Monday. About 900 soldier and civilian families will be affected.
Fort Drum officials said that if sequestration is resolved by late April, it's possible these cuts won't happen but they want everyone to be prepared.
The post expects more announcements on cutbacks soon.
