BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- After a very public battle over the course of the last two months, a Binghamton family has finally gotten their home back. The Broome County Legislature voted Thursday to sell back the property at 9 Arthur Street to the original owners.

The on-going saga began when the Kurylo family's home was foreclosed on last year after falling behind on taxes. A family member came forward to pay the taxes, plus interest and fines just after Christmas, but was told it was too late.

After passing new legislation allowing owners to purchase back their homes at their previous meeting, the Broome County Legislature approved the sale to the Kurylo's Thursday.

"I now feel that so many people that may face the same circumstances as my family did, will feel that they have a shot at dealing with the county government and the county legislature," Volodymyr Kurylo said.

Despite getting the home back, Kurylo says the fight isn't over. The county charged his family two month’s rent while the property was in flux, even though he was willing to pay the money that was owed up front.
