Warm weather lovers are saying sayonara to the snow this weekend in many areas across the state as temperatures warm up. Our Elyse Mickalonis caught up with some people who are enjoying the outdoors without having to shovel.

NEW YORK STATE -- It’s not something you usually see in the middle of winter: People lacing up their sneakers instead of pulling on their snow boots.

"Lately it's been cold and snowy, so I've had to run on the treadmill, which is boring, so I couldn't wait to get outside when I heard the weather was going to be nice,” said Jean Burlingame, a Binghamton resident.

But with some areas of the state hitting the 50 degree mark this weekend, runners, walkers and cyclists couldn't help themselves..

"Mainly families and a couple joggers, but mainly families with their bicycles, almost ran me over, but that's okay they're little kids!" said Vestal resident Barbara Harris-Pruitt.

Endicott resident Tom Monticello added, "Trying to shed some of these holiday meals, it's a good New Year's start. I'm getting older and you want to try and keep in shape, because too many things go wrong after you get to 50 or 60."

Some say the warm weather is even giving them the chance to make their four-legged friends happy.

"They get housebound too, so I look forward to a little break and so does the dog. And I like to enjoy a little taste of spring, even though it’s not going to last,” said Burlingame.

James Flynn, Apalachin resident, added, "The dogs, they just want to say hello and I say hello to the dogs, that's half the fun, to say hello to the dogs."

Although many say they’re happy about the snow melting, others say they don’t mind the cold.

"Your health doesn't take vacations, you have to keep after your health, you can't just be a nice weather walker,” said Flynn.

And while many welcome a break from the snow, others are surely waiting for its return. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
