WEBSTER, N.Y. -- Webster shooter William Spengler's former next door neighbor, Dawn Nguyen, 24, has been charged with what the U.S. Attorney's Office says is a "Straw Purchase."

Nguyen is being accused of knowingly purchased guns for Spengler, but told the merchant they were for her. It happened back in the summer of 2010, when Nguyen and Spengler visited the Gander Mountain store in Henrietta together.

According to investigators, Spengler handpicked two guns he wanted and then Nguyen bought them under her name.

Authorities say sometime between then and the shooting on Christmas Eve, Spengler got possession of the guns and planned to kill first responders.

“While William Spengler may have escaped the criminal justice system, those who provided the firearms to Spengler that he used on Christmas Eve to murder and wound the firefighters and the police officer, will not escape the criminal justice system," U.S. District Attorney William Hochul said.

Court paperwork shows Nguyen admitted to most of the information to police.

She faces up to 10 years in jail and a quarter million dollar fine if convicted. She's also facing a state felony charge for falsifying business records.

Police say there was also a third gun found near Spengler's body. Right now, investigators are not sure where he got that gun.

We're told there may be more charges and arrests as the investigation continues.
