There's no doubt, there's always lots to see and do at the Corning Museum of Glass. But this Friday it won't just be about the glass blowing or creative designs. Instead, employees have been getting ready for the customers to pour in for Black Friday deals. Our Katie Husband takes us inside for a look at preparations and some unique gifts.
CORNING, N.Y. -- 'Tis the season for the extra hands on deck to stock the shelves for Black Friday.
"Happy about the event and by the sixth trailer on Monday, we've had enough," said Victor Nemard, Merchandise Manager at the Glass Market.
That's what it's been like the last six years for the Corning Museum of Glass and this year is no different, bringing ten to fifteen extra people on board.
"It's just a lot of hands, a lot of unpacking and ticketing and stacking but it's fun, overall it's lots of fun," said Nemard.
It's not the big ticket items like the latest toys or electronics they're stocking, it's more along the lines of glass treasures.
"We have vases, we have desk accessories we have all kinds of gift items that are made in the region. So it's an opportunity to shop for glass from all over the world as well as things made here locally in Corning," said Nemard.
There's so much to choose from so, bring on the crowd.
"It's Black Friday everyone is expecting large crowds, hopefully we will have large crowds as well. It's pretty exciting to see the people standing outside and this year it won't be cold so that will be great. So they can stand outside and we open the doors at seven o'clock in the morning and they can rush in and we have lots of merchandise for them to purchase," said Nemard.
Each year the Black Friday crowd has grown.
"From word of mouth it got larger and larger and it continues to grow," said Nemard.
Crystal City shoppers are welcomed to shop Black Friday from seven in the morning to 5:30 at night.
