With the biggest meal of the year coming up on Thursday, a lot of you probably don't plan on cooking a big meal Wednesday night. But while your oven may be getting a break, chances are your local pizzeria isn't. Our Sarah Blazonis was at Peppino's Pizza in Syracuse with more on what some shops say is one of their busiest days of the year.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – We stopped by Peppino's Pizzeria earlier Wednesday and the owner told us the day before Thanksgiving is basically an all-hands-on-deck situation.
Extra delivery men were called in and chefs were at work all day long cooking up everything from traditional cheese pizza to their special Thanksgiving pie, complete with stuffing and mashed potatoes.
We also stopped over at Mark's Pizzeria in Syracuse, where they say the situation is pretty much the same.
A lot of orders for workplaces looking to give employees a pre-holiday treat and of course, plenty from folks who just don't want to cook the day before Thanksgiving.
Both pizzerias say this isn't anything they haven't handled before and they were prepared. They're used to the rush and say they like being part of families' holiday traditions.
"We put extra drivers on. About 70 percent of our business is deliveries and we make sure we have plenty of flour, dough, chicken wings," said Michael Beretsky, Mark’s Pizzeria General Manager.
"It's an incredible honor to be part of so many families' traditions and for us to help complete the circle of togetherness of family, friends, conversation and great food," said Peppino’s Pizzeria owner John Vigliotti.
With the extra holiday traffic, they do say customers should order their pizza in plenty of time for dinner. And we're told this actually isn't the busiest day for the pizza business. That would be Halloween.
