SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It's been apparent in recent months that there are tensions between Syracuse's democratic mayor and the democrats sitting on the city council. Now, those tensions could lead to a primary battle for the mayor in 2013, should she seek a second term.

At least one councilor says he's considering a run for the job of mayor.

Patrick Hogan is 2nd District Councilor and, under term limits, is serving his last term in that post. He also serves as democratic whip for the council. He plans on making a decision in the race shortly after the first of the year.

Hogan says he's heard from people who want options in 2013.

“There's been people who've come to me and asked me to consider it. They're long time friends, supporters. People I've coached with. People I've known since my days in the Parks Department. Folks that I deal with on a daily basis as constituents. Those people have asked me to consider it and I'm gonna,” Hogan said.

Also mentioned as a potential challenger for the mayor is Councilor at Large Kathleen Joy. Joy says she is not ruling anything in or out until the political outlook for next year becomes clearer. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
